VW Showroom

Volkswagen is in the process of updating its showrooms across the UK, ensuring they offer customers and staff up-to-date, modern and useable space.  Included within these projects are a number of relocations to new, purpose-built sites which will greatly enhance customer experience.

Volkswagen currently has a network of 210 Retailers nationwide.  Forty-nine of these have already completed their revisions and a further 70 are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2013.

Business has carried on ‘as usual’ throughout the work at all sites.  Feedback received to date from customers and staff suggests that any temporary disruption was well worthwhile.  All new showrooms have space for at least 10 new Volkswagen cars, comfortable waiting and refreshment areas, merchandise and accessories plus WiFi.  There are also ample parking spaces and modern state-of-the-art workshops to provide the best possible aftersales back-up for all Volkswagen cars.

Some Retailers will showcase initiatives such as cafés, children’s play areas, dedicated vehicle hand-over areas and consultation bays, all of which are designed to enhance the experience for customers when purchasing or maintaining their vehicle.

All Retailers are also part of Volkswagen’s ‘Digital Showroom’ revolution.  This development, which went live at all Retailers in summer 2012 equipped showrooms and staff with iPads and a range of advanced web tools with the aim of closing the gap between the on- and off-line worlds.  As well as making the assimilation of information easier for the customer it also enables him or her to view virtual examples of products and specifications that may not otherwise be available for immediate viewing in the showroom.

Spencer Clayton-Jones, Volkswagen’s Head of Customer Quality and Network Development, commented: ‘We’re making fantastic progress on the project.  Where the changes are complete we’ve noticed a large uplift in customer visits, purchases and staff morale.  Customers are clearly enthusiastic about coming to the new showrooms and this suggests when they do they’re happy, engaged and serious about buying a car.  If they like the environment it follows they’ll want to come back for regular maintenance, which has definite benefits for them, and of course, for our Retailers.’

He added: ‘We’re looking forward to 2015 when all of our showrooms will have undergone the changes and we can guarantee all our customers across the UK the consistency and high quality environment they would expect from Volkswagen.’

MK1 Golf GTD MK1 Golf Diesel Alloys

Phils latest project see’s him convert a MK1 VW Golf C 1.1 Ltre 4 speed engine into a MK1 GTD Golf. Well known for buying a new set of wheels for his cars every couple of weeks it seems Phil is changing his cars almost as often. The fabia VRS is now long gone (and as it seems, is on eBay at the moment) and the MK1 VW Golf is the latest car to be highly modified. His initial idea was to keep it petrol powered, however in true Phil fashion he changed his mind very quickly and opted to convert it to the dark side (Diesel).

The car features original S1 GTI seats, GTI Vented brakes, KW V1 Inox coilover suspension and many many sets of wheels.

The MK1 VW Golf diesel conversion is quite a popular idea amongst volkswagen enthusiasts, but very rarely seen through to completion. We look forward to hearing more from Phil about his MK1 Diesel VW Golf. The MK1 Diesel build thread will take you through from beginning to the current status.

The cost for each car to run on the dyno will be £30 with 100% of this going to the charity

There will be a raffle with prizes coming from companies including Autoglym, Poorboys UK, VW Driver Magazine, Audi Driver Magazine, TDISport (Merchandise), a remap from CCTuning and many more!

R32 Diesel MK5 VW Golf

The Car started out life as a normal GT TDI 140 VW Golf. It now resembles almost exactly an R32, the 3.2 litre petrol model and is often mistaken as such at shows around the country which TDISport attend.
However, this R32 has something special…. it is of course diesel, making the car far more economical to run as a daily driver.

R32 Diesel MK5 VW Golf TDI

The R32 is a very very popular car amongst petrol heads and Volkswagen fans alike, but with consumption being a big issue Jason has the best of both worlds, an MPG of over 50 and a car with the stunning looks as the MK5 VW Golf R32.

You can read all about Jasons MK5 Diesel R32 within his members cars thread on the TDISport forum. Find out what modifications Jason has made to the car along the journey to it’s current specification. This is a thread not to be missed and will be very popular for car enthusiasts.

R32 Replica

The car features such interior enhancements as the RCD 510 stereo/entertainment unit found in the MK6 Golf, a Remap courtesy of CCTuning meaning the 140bhp output is a thing of the past. Full R32 interior, heated front seats, electric lumbar support. R logos on head rests.

vw e-co-motion concept

At next week’s Geneva International Motor Show, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will be showing a transporter concept vehicle: the e-Co-Motion. Despite its large cargo capacity it is compact and manoeuvrable. Eight hundred kilograms of payload, yet zero emissions on the road thanks to an electric drive system.

‘Electric mobility – especially in light commercial vehicles – could play a crucial role in meeting the growing transport needs of the world’s megacities,’ explains Dr. Eckhard Scholz, Speaker of the Brand Board of Management. ‘Freight trains and conventional or hybrid-powered high capacity lorries would deliver goods up to the city limits. Then, at transfer stations, smaller electric delivery vans would take over. Their predictable travel routes and fixed depots would simplify battery charging and equipment maintenance.’

Exclusively conceptualised with an electric drive, the e-Co-Motion offers many user-relevant vehicle properties: high manoeuvrability with a small vehicle footprint, very good visibility and seating ergonomics with easy entry, exit and walk-through. A low cargo floor height and large cargo capacity make loading easier.

Fully independent of existing models, the exterior of the e-Co-Motion appeals with its ability to unify what at first appear to be contradictory development specifications: maximum space on a minimal vehicle footprint. From a length of just 4.55 m (width: 1.90 m, height: 1.96 m) the concept vehicle offers a maximum cargo capacity of 4.6 m3 and an impressive 800 kg of payload. This was enabled by clear partitioning of the vehicle body into a lower driving-relevant zone containing an underfloor drive unit, battery and gearbox; and an upper superstructure that is relevant to delivery tasks. This generates ideal conditions for maximum space utilisation, and all sorts of body versions and customer solutions are imaginable. Whether it is a driver’s cab in front of a cargo box, as in the concept vehicle, or a passenger shuttle, low platform or refrigerated box: the customer decides.

Citigo Sport
New ŠKODA Citigo SPORT with aggressive, sporty styling and enhanced equipment
Available in three and five-door version
Offered with 1.0 MPI 60PS engine
Priced from £10,290.00
Milton Keynes, 27 February 2013 – ŠKODA’s multi award-winning Citigo line is about to be extended with the introduction of the SPORT, a new model with enhanced sports styling, lowered suspension and bespoke interior.

Available as a three or five-door hatch, the car’s trim is based on the current Citigo SE. Under the bonnet of this seemingly powerful special model is a frugal 1.0 MPI 60PS petrol engine mated to a five-gear manual transmission.

From the outside, the Citigo SPORT boasts a dynamic look, underlined by black 15-inch ‘Auriga’ design alloy wheels, fog lights, tinted ‘sunset’ windows, a sports suspension – which lowers the ride height by 15 mm – and a bespoke styling kit which includes a front and rear spoiler and a rear diffusor. A racing stripe, contrasting in colour to the respective body, runs from the front to the rear of the car while additional stripes at the rear, on lower door frames and exterior mirrors further enhance the car’s sporty appeal.

The Citigo SPORT is available in three colours; Candy White with red stripes, Tornado Red with black stripes and Deep Black with red stripes.

Inside the Citigo SPORT, customers receive distinctive black and red sports seats, a three-spoke leather steering wheel with red stitching, leather handbrake and gearstick gaiter with red stitching and matching floor mats. A two-tone grey and black dashboard and unique grey décor instruments add to the car’s exclusive appeal.

A highlight of the Citigo SPORT’s interior is the dashboard-mounted Personal Infotainment Device (PID). Featuring a five-inch touch-screen, this sleekly styled multi-function technology comes as standard on the Citigo SPORT. The PID includes advanced satellite navigation, a Bluetooth hands-free telephone connection, vehicle and trip information, plus a media player which can be synced to an external music device. To ensure owners get the most from their music the Citigo SPORT comes with four additional speakers.

The ŠKODA Citigo SPORT is on sale now.

Since its launch last year, the ŠKODA Citigo has established a presence for ŠKODA in the fast-growing subcompact segment. In 2012 alone, 30,000 customers in Europe purchased a ŠKODA Citigo.

Despite its compact dimensions, the ŠKODA Citigo is among the safest cars on the road. Citigo has been awarded the top score of five stars in the independent Euro NCAP crash test ratings. The highlight of the car’s safety package is City Safe Drive, an innovative emergency braking function which activates at speeds below 19 mph (30km/h). Available as an optional extra across the range, it uses a laser sensor built into the windscreen to scan the road up to 10 metres ahead. If it detects an impending crash, depending on speed and traffic situation, automatic braking can reduce the severity of an impact or even prevent it altogether. This significantly lowers the risk of rear-end shunts in heavy traffic.

The Citigo boasts generous class-leading space. No other competitor outside Volkswagen Group offers more boot space (251 litres) and interior width (1.36 metres). Folding down the rear seats will increase boot volume to 959 litres in the five-door version. The car’s long wheelbase of 2.42 m means four persons can sit comfortably even on long trips. An Easy Entry function facilitates access to the rear seats in the three-door version.

SEAT Martorell
Opened by King Juan Carlos I in February 1993, Martorell remains one of Europe’s most modern production facilities
Built in 34 months at a cost equivalent to 1.5 billion euros, it covers an area of three million square metres
Second-generation Ibiza and Cordoba models were the first to roll off the assembly line
Martorell employs 11,500 staff and has so far produced almost eight million vehicles
SEAT is this month celebrating a monumental landmark in its history: the 20th anniversary of the official opening of the Martorell production facility. It’s a milestone not only for the Spanish company, but for Spanish industry itself, on account of the factory’s ground-breaking technology and labour systems.

Prior to the inauguration of the Martorell factory, SEAT’s manufacturing capacity was concentrated in the Zona Franca, Barcelona, which opened its doors in 1950 and built its first vehicle, the 1400, in 1953.

On 22 February 1993, King Juan Carlos I unveiled the plaque commemorating the official opening of Martorell, in the presence of the then new Chairman of the Volkswagen Group, Dr. Ferdinand Piëch; Dr Piech is today Chairman of the Volkswagen Supervisory Council.

Martorell remains one of the most modern car production facilities in Europe, today manufacturing all three versions of the Ibiza, the new Leon, the Altea and Altea XL, the Exeo and Exeo ST, and the Audi Q3.

Over the past 20 years, almost eight million cars have come out of the facility from 32 product ranges, including the first-generation Toledo, the Inca van, and the Arosa city car. The company still uses part of the original Zona Franca factory infrastructure to create stamped bodywork parts.

The second-generation Ibiza and the Cordoba were the first models to roll off the Martorell production line, at the rate of 1,500 units a day by December 1993, resulting in a total of 140,275 cars for that year.

“Throughout its 20-year history, Martorell has become increasingly advanced. Thanks to continuous investment in technology and a highly qualified team, we have improved quality to perfection, both in products and processes,” says Dr. Andreas Tostmann, Vice-President for Production at SEAT.

Backbone of the economy

Over the past 20 years, SEAT cannot be fully understood without Martorell, nor can the Spanish automotive sector be understood without SEAT. In 1993 an entire suppliers’ estate was created, initially with 20 companies.

Today, SEAT’s multiplying effect on the economy carries great weight. It is Spain’s number one vehicle manufacturer, exports 85% of its production and provides direct employment for 11,500 workers at Martorell, and indirect activity for 46,000. Of all SEAT’s suppliers, 60% are Spanish.

VW Transporter Roadside Assistance

The Volkswagen Transporter has been chosen for a fleet of 79 roadside assistance vehicles for Allianz Global Assistance in a deal worth £1.75m.

Fuel efficiency, value for money and payload capacity were essential vehicle criteria for Allianz Global Assistance, and every Transporter has been converted to enable its technicians to carry all the essential equipment they need while on the road, including a compact recovery trailer, diagnostic equipment and dedicated storage for jack, axle stands, tools, common vehicle parts and car batteries.

Rob Lunt, deputy operations director at Allianz Global Assistance in the UK, said: ‘We required a fleet with an outstanding all-round performance, great residual values, and excellent fuel economy, but as we operate a 24/7 business, vehicle reliability is also of paramount importance and the Volkswagen Transporter meets all our needs.’

The new Transporter fleet will be supplied from the Birmingham Volkswagen Van Centre, which has worked with Allianz Global Assistance to ensure the vehicles have been converted to the bespoke specification required, and delivered on time.

Alex Smith, Director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles said: ‘Allianz Global Assistance has made a great choice of van.  The Transporter’s durability, quality and efficient engines will deliver low running costs and great value for its business, while our Van Centres will ensure the best service for its customers.’

VW Golf GTD
Some 30 years after the original model introduced European car drivers to an intoxicating blend of practicality, high performance and abstemiousness, Volkswagen is readying the latest Golf GTD, which is set to make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

Back in 1982, the first Golf GTD was revolutionary, being a compact hatchback with sporty tuning, the style of the Golf GTI and low diesel running costs. The new GTD, based on the seventh generation Golf, is the most powerful ever, and like the original it blends performance with fuel-efficiency to make it a great long-distance touring car.

With a six-speed manual gearbox, the Golf GTD, powered by a 2.0-litre common rail turbodiesel producing 184 PS and 380 Nm of torque from 1,750 rpm, consumes just one gallon of fuel every 67.3 miles, making for CO2 emissions of only 109 g/km. With the optional six-speed DSG, fuel consumption is 60.1 mpg (three-door: 119 g/km CO2; five-door: 122 g/km CO2). Acceleration from zero to 62 mph takes just 7.5 seconds, while the top speed is 142 mph.

The Golf GTD comes with smoked LED rear lights with LED licence plate illumination, along with chrome dual tailpipes, 17-inch alloy wheels with 225/45 tyres, side skirts, a rear diffuser, sports suspension and a large roof spoiler.

Distinctive GTD features distinguish the interior: along with tartan sports seats, a black rooflining, sports steering wheel, stainless steel pedals, there is also a GTD-specific gear lever, trim strips and instrument cluster. Comfort is guaranteed thanks to features including progressive steering, white ambience lighting, ‘Climatronic’ climate control, front and rear parking sensors and a winter pack.

The new Golf GTD is available in Germany at an entry-level price of 29,350 euros, and orders begin on 5 March. UK sales are expected to start in April, with deliveries in the summer. Pricing and specification is yet to be confirmed.

Mk7 Golf

The new Volkswagen Golf MK7 has been hailed as the best ever Golf, in turn this has created a great expectation surrounding the car. But, does this Golf meet those expectations and exceed them or is this model falling short of the excitement? Also, can Volkswagen improve much on the previous MK6 Model?

First of all the Volkswagen Golf MK7’s exterior has got slightly bigger at 150mm longer, 13mm wider and at 4mm slightly lower this model is lower, leaner and bigger. The Golf remains a similar styling to previous versions but with an increased aerodynamic of 10 per cent more (according to VW) this is noticeable in the ride and its handling. 3 and 5 door models are available to choose from with the option of a 2 door cabriolet.

The driver can choose between 1.2, 1.4, 1.6 and 2 litre diesel and petrol alternatives. The lower 1.2 and 1.4 diesels boast 58.9MPG a very impressive return considering the performance the MK7 manages to still deliver. The performance seems to be competing with other hatchbacks for bhp, with models providing as low as 103bhp and maximum of 148bhp. Refinement is something you can expect from Volkswagen as tests have been focusing on reducing road, wind and tyre noise.

Interior fundamentally remains the same with tweaks improving marginally. Space inside has slightly increased to accommodate more room for passengers, driver and also boot space. The dashboard has been upgraded with a glossy black plastic; controls are angled towards the drive which increases usability. Technology surrounds the cabin with touchscreen display, Bluetooth telephone connection coming as standard and other add-ons are available too.

Overall Volkswagen has managed to improve on the Golf, It’s not a revolutionary improvement however but they still have managed to target areas that need improving on, making this better than the MK6. VW say that the Volkswagen Golf MK7 is the best golf ever, visit a Volkswagen dealership to make up your mind.
